What is spinal decompression?

Decompression of the spine is accomplished by traction.  Traction is a procedure that is applied by placing a patient on a table that can accomplish a longitudinal force that opens up the joint spaces relieving pressure on the nerves, disks, and facet joints of the spine.  Especially effective in treating sciatica, disk herniations, chronic low back conditions and post surgical complications.  The technique is effective in many cases and can solve problems that once would require surgical intervention.  In fact, specific traction (decompression) is considered non surgical closed reduction of serious lumbar lesions like disk herniations and sciatica.

Over the years developers of tables have marketed decompression (traction) as a newfound procedure when in fact it is not.  We have been treating serious back conditions for many years using Cox (Decompression Protocols) which is a widely used and proven technique for decompression in the chiropractic field.  The table is very unique and moves in all 14 planes of motion.  Other tables move in only one or two planes of motion, are expensive to own and operate, and thus require higher fees to the patient.  Don't be fooled by a specific marketing of a technique or table.
